Ok in short, I've been totally shot down. My first proper gauche painting that I've been working on for five weeks got destroyed by my mentor. They are making me feel completely incompetent, and the rotary art exhibition was coming up on Friday night and I wanted to submit it, but every time they kept saying it wasn't good enough and decided they were going to fix it, and they destroyed it and were all "Oh, well you can't submit it now". And it's hard to get mad at them because they are actually very lovely people, but I was so incredibly mad and upset.
Things are going so crap for me lately, nothing is going right. And the one thing that I'm supposed to be good at, people are making me feel like shit. I'm a shy person but I was trying to finally branch out in to the art world, and now all I want to do is go as far back in my shell as I can. People are making me feel so low about myself all the time, art is the one thing that I've had compliments for and now I've just totally lost confidence. In the environment I've been working in, everybody is making me feel really talentless, and I don't understand because everyone else is having their crap submitted to the exhibition which is honestly not good at all, yet they kept refusing to submit mine which I was really proud of, until they eventually destroyed it. I spent so, so many hours working tiny little details on that painting and within seconds they just clean painted right over it.
Might not seem like much to anyone else, but I guess it's the final straw for me on top of everything else. I just want to be good at something. For some reason I hate showing people my art, but everyone kept encouraging me to and now I just wish they'd left me alone. I feel so embarassed, and it was so incredibly unfair. I can't fix my painting that I spent so much time on, I can't enter the exhibition, everyone was making snide comments about it, pulling my art apart and it wasn't helpful in the slightest.
If my career is going to be full of moments like this, I'm not sure I want to do art anymore...and that scares me cos I don't know how to do anything else.
Anyone out there who has any kind of talent knows how incredibly horrible it would feel to have someone make you feel like you don't have that talent at all.
